Scalable Group Composition with End-to-end Delivery Semantics

چکیده
This paper examines the problem of building scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems from collections of communicating process groups while maintaining well-deened end-to-end delivery semantics. Our approach to inter-group communication takes advantage of modular group composition. We introduce a generic model which provides a distinction between intra-group and inter-group communication, and allows for independent modular composition of protocols for each type of communication. Using this model, we provide a framework for analyzing the end-to-end semantic behavior of messages, making it possible to determine exactly what delivery semantics a set of receivers will observe for a given message, even when those receivers are members of diierent process groups which use diierent group multicast protocols and enforce diierent delivery semantics. To realize this model, we present an implementation architecture which is based on a simple abstraction: inter-group routers. Inter-group routers provide a mechanism for the exchange of messages between process groups. They allow groups to communicate in a fault-tolerant manner without sharing group or message state information and without modifying the underlying communication protocols. Finally, we present simulation results of our architecture for a variety of inter-group topologies and communication patterns. Using the published performance data of an existing group communication protocol, we simulate the performance of our architecture to verify its scalability. We also connrm that the end-to-end semantics predicted by our model are actually enforced by the architecture.

The Inter-group Router Approach to Scalable Group Composition
This paper examines the problem of building scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems from collections of communicating process groups, while maintaining well-defined end-to-end delivery semantics. We propose a new architecture which supports modular group composition by providing a distinction between intra-group and inter-group communication. With this architecture, multiple group communic...
متن کاملLMS: A Router Assisted Scheme for Reliable Multicast
Building on the success of unicast IP, IP Multicast adopted a simple, open, best-effort delivery model with broadcast-within-a-group semantics. Despite several years of effort, the research community has been unable to produce scalable and reliable end-to-end transport on top of this model. Proposed solutions are either not flexible or incur high control overhead. Many of these problems can be ...

Although IP Multicast is an effective network primitive for best-effort, large-scale, multi-point communication, many multicast applications such as shared whiteboards, multi-player games and software distribution require reliable data delivery. Building services like reliable sequenced delivery on top of IP Multicast has proven to be a hard problem. The enormous extent of network and end-syste...

In recent years a new type of wireless networks named wireless mesh networks has drawn the attention of researchers. In order to increase the capacity of mesh network, nodes are equipped with multiple radios tuned on multiple channels emerging multi radio multi channel wireless mesh networks. Therefore, the main challenge of these networks is how to properly assign the channels to the radios. O...

Introduction: Pain is a common phenomenon and is an inevitable part of process of childbirth. Continuous labor pain is effective of respiratory system blood circularly endocrine glands and other activity of body. Heat as a non pharmacological method of pain relief helps reduce the pain severity. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of heat therapy on labor pain and the end of lab...
